Description of the tour

The full horror of 20th-century industrialized warfare was nowhere more intense than in the Somme in 1916. By the end of 1st July, some 57,000 Commonwealth soldiers had become casualties, by the end of the offensive in November, more than 1 million soldiers had been wounded, captured, or killed.

Come and join us for a day of remembrance and discover some of the areas that suffered severely in these violent and bloody battles of the Great War. You will start the day at the 1918 battlefields around Villers-Bretonneux, and pay your respects to the fallen at The Australian Memorial where you will also visit John Monash Centre. You will then be driven to the 1916 sites starting with the Lochnager Crater at La Boisselle, Pozières, and the Thiepval Memorial to the 72,000 British and South African soldiers who were killed and have no known grave.

You will finish this moving day with a tour around the Newfoundland Memorial Park at Beaumont-Hamel with its preserved trenches.
